Bachs Matthäus-Passion

Bachs Matthäus-Passion

Theater aan het Vrijthof
Maastricht
Some three hundred years ago, the first performance of the St Matthew Passion took place in Leipzig's Thomaskirche.

With lyricist Picander, Bach created a grand masterpiece for two orchestras, two choirs, children's choir and vocal soloists. ‘The St Matthew’ can be heard every year around Easter in hundreds of sold-out concert halls and packed churches.

Jos van Veldhoven's last Matthäus with ‘his’ Nederlandse Bachvereniging was praised in the Volkskrant for its ‘transparent sound’, ‘dramatic moments’ and ‘swinging performance’. Again, he brings his own choice of excellent vocal soloists and additional instrumentalists.

Be deeply moved by Bach's brilliant rendition of the Passion of Jesus. With beloved arias like Erbarme dich and Aus Liebe. A tale of betrayal, pain, death, forgiveness and love.
