Who will be the first winner of the The Art of Song Prize? During this international masterclass for song duos, young singers and pianists from around the world work on their interpretation of the art song.

The classes take place in the inspiring setting of the Paleis van de Grootproost (Henric van Veldekeplein 29) and the historic Sint Janskerk (Vrijthof 24) in Maastricht.

Under the guidance of song specialists Ulf Bästlein (bass-baritone) and Charles Spencer (pianist), the participants receive intensive, public coaching at the highest level.

As a scholar with a doctorate in German studies, Bästlein approaches the art of song with a unique combination of academic depth and vocal expressiveness, placing him among the most respected interpreters of the Lied.

Spencer is known for his exceptional musicianship and refined sensitivity to text and has accompanied legendary singers.
