Clemensdomein

Clemensdomein

The Clemensdomein in Oud Merkelbeek is a distinctive and historic national monument located in the municipality of Brunssum, close to the border with Beekdaelen.

This special domain is a green, quiet enclave steeped in history and spirituality. The domain comprises four national monuments: the centuries-old Clemenskerkje church, an atmospheric Lourdes grotto, the tomb of Baron De Negri and his wife, and the remains of the old monastery wall of decorative brickwork that surrounds the grounds, reminiscent of the religious past of this place.

The Clemens Estate is not only of cultural and historical value, but also serves as a centre for nature education and reflection, where young and old can connect with nature, the weather, bees, and contemplation.

Would you like to discover the special stories or take a look inside? You can do so easily via the 360-degree tour or by listening to the audio tour. You can also find both tours quickly and easily by scanning the QR codes on the sign on the church façade.

The Clemensdomein is bustling with activities: concerts, lectures and conferences are held regularly. It is also officially recognised as a civil wedding venue. Both the Clemenskerkje and the visitor pavilion can be hired for special events that perfectly match the atmosphere of this beautiful place.
