Kasteel Nijswiller

Southeast of the village of Nijswiller, on the right bank of the Sinselbeek, is castle Nijswiller. In the oldest part is an uneven piece of wall of 2 meters thick. This indicates that the house has medieval origins. The projecting corner tower is considered to be the oldest element of the house. On the roof is a weather vane with the coat of arms of Jan (II) van Eynatten.

He is one of the owners who owned this castle over the centuries. In 1860 the house was considerably expanded. On the south side, platforms with natural stone balustrades were added and canals were filled in. In 1934 the castle came into the possession of the Franciscan sisters, after which it became a center of reflection. Today the castle is privately owned and houses a bed and breakfast.
