Kuusj De Varkenshoederij

Kuusj De Varkenshoederij

At De Varkenshoederij, the pigs live in natural freedom. In the past, already in Roman times, pigs could be found in almost every household. In every village there was a pig herder who, early in the morning and blowing his horn, walked past the houses to pick up the pigs one by one. He then led the entire herd to natural areas where food could be found.

After the Second World War, pig farming became highly industrialised: mechanisation, scaling up and specialisation were encouraged. In 2016, Amy and Joshua, two young entrepreneurs who did not come from farming backgrounds, started Kuusj!

They show you that things can be done differently. For centuries, pigs have played an important role in a healthy ecosystem. At De Varkenshoederij, they try to make use of this and therefore gladly take you along on a journey: Forward to the Past!

They process the meat in their own meat workshop, ‘Kuusj en Ko’, in Mechelen. Here, in addition to their own pork, you will also find a wide range of meat and meat products (including various barbecue and other packages), offered directly from the farmer.

Visit the (online) meat workshop for an honest and delicious piece of meat straight from the farmer and discover the wide range of regional products!

De Varkenshoederij can only be visited during open days.
