Kuusj De Varkenshoederij

Kuusj De Varkenshoederij

At the Varkenshoederij, pigs live in natural freedom. Back in Roman times, pigs could be found in almost every household. In every village there was a pig keeper who, blowing his horn early in the morning, went round the houses to pick up the pigs one by one. He then led the whole pack to places in nature where food could be found.

After the Second World War, pig farming became hugely industrialised: mechanisation, economies of scale and specialisation were encouraged. In 2016, Amy and Joshua, two young entrepreneurs and both not from a farming background, started Kuusj!

They show you that things can be done differently. Since ancient times, the pig has played an important role in a healthy ecosystem. At the Piggery, they try to make use of this and that's why they are happy to take you to: Forward to the Past!

They process the meat in their own Meat Workshop “Kuusj en Ko” on Hoofdstraat 63 in Mechelen. Here, in addition to their own pork, a wide range of meat and meat products (also various barbecue and other packages) is offered directly from the farmer!

Visit the (online) meat workshop for an honest piece of meat directly from the farmer or book one of the packages and let yourself be drawn into this special story. Check the website for more information!

Please note! The Varkenshoederij can only be visited by appointment or during one of the packages.
