At the Varkenhoederij, the company motto is: Forward to the Past!

In the old days, as far back as Roman times, pigs could be found in almost every household. In every village there was a pig keeper who, blowing his horn early in the morning, would go round the houses to pick up the pigs one by one. He then led the whole pack to places in nature where food could be found.

After the Second World War, pig farming became hugely industrialised: mechanisation, economies of scale and specialisation were encouraged.

In 2016, Amy and Joshua, two young entrepreneurs and both not from a farming background, started Kuusj! They show you that things can be done differently. Since ancient times, the pig has played an important role in a healthy ecosystem. At the Piggery, they try to make use of this, which is why they are happy to take you to: Forward to the Past!
