Oud-Geleen

Oud-Geleen is a historic part of the Geleen district. Already around 5,000 BC. people lived in (Oud)-Geleen. This makes it one of the oldest inhabited areas in the Netherlands. The center of Oud-Geleen is the church that was founded in Carolingian times (800-850). The current church tower is the oldest monument in Geleen and was built in 1504.

The arrival of the state mine Maurits and its official opening in 1925 also meant a complete revolution for Oud-Geleen. For the first time, many strangers came to live in the area and people were not used to that. Oud-Geleen is and will remain a neighborhood with an appearance that is unique in many ways. Visit the district and be surprised by its historic character.
