Stadhuis Aken

Aachen Town Hall is the historic town hall of Aachen. The imposing building is located opposite the Aachen Cathedral. It is, together with the Duomo, the most prominent building in the center of this beautiful city. One tower still dates from the time of Charlemagne. During the Second World War, the building was heavily damaged by Allied bombing, but after the war the restoration was started immediately. In the 1970s, the interior was restored and the building got new spires. Aachen Town Hall is a major tourist attraction. Since 2009, it has been part of the Route Charlemagne, where historical sites reminiscent of Charlemagne are made accessible to visitors. An exhibition explains the history and art-historical significance of the town hall.
