Trichterbos Brunssum

In recent years, a new forest has been created in Brunssum along the N276 Brunssum-Sittard. This Trichterbos with an area of six hectares was made possible thanks to the ENCI and the municipality of Gulpen-Wittem. They had reserved money for necessary compensation under the Forest Act, but had no land available. The municipality of Brunssum had six hectares of land available, but had no money for complete planting of forest.

The groups of lime trees that are planted here and there are special about the Trichterbos. Linden attract bees, which is one of the reasons why these trees were planted. But there are more reasons. Lime forests, such as you have in England and Switzerland, are among the most beautiful forests in Europe. They are open trees, which provide a lot of light in the forest. Because of this, and because the leaves decompose quickly, a very beautiful ground vegetation is created.
