Charles Eyck - Van Barok naar Expressionisme

Charles Eyck - Van Barok naar Expressionisme

This presentation in SCHUNCK's Art Depot shows the stylistic development of Charles Eyck (1897-1983) in the 1950s.

During his stay in Curaçao (1952-1953), his style changed dramatically: from a narrative, lyrical-baroque approach to an expressive, modernist visual language.

Eyck remains figurative, but draws inspiration from cubism and expressionism. The development is clearly visible in two portraits of his daughter Bimba, from 1939 and 1956.

His connection with Heerlen is also covered: from murals in churches to contributions to exhibitions in the Town Hall.

Eyck's works from the region - including the large canvas Schutterij and a portrait of Mayor Van Grunsven - clearly show the difference in style before and after 1952.
