On the eve of Coming Out Day and during History Month, Filmhuis De Spiegel, Queer Parkstad and the Dutch Mining Museum are organising an evening at Theatre Royal with film, discussion and music. The focus will be on the film Pride (2014, Matthew Warchus).
The heart-warming, comical drama Pride is set during the 1984 miners' strike in the United Kingdom. The striking miners receive financial support from all over Great Britain. This includes LGSM (Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners).
They raise a huge amount of money, but soon encounter a problem. The striking workers are not exactly eager to accept money from a bunch of “perverts”, as the workers subtly label the action group.
Despite all the opposition, LGSM travelled to rugged Wales, determined to offer help. Gigi Love opened the evening with a performance. After the film, historian Michel Lemaire and experts Corina Karstenberg and Didier Savelkoul engaged in a discussion.
