Het Verhaal van Valkenburg – De Bokkenrijders

Het Verhaal van Valkenburg – De Bokkenrijders

Grotestraat Centrum 31
Valkenburg
On 27 April 1773, a strong east wind sweeps through Valkenburg. A fire breaks out at the back of a stable belonging to a house opposite the Landshuis (on the site where the town hall once stood and where Museum Valkenburg is now located). The residents escape just in time, but the strong wind causes the flames to spread rapidly from house to house. The fire even jumps beyond the Grendelpoort.

Within a short time, a large part of Valkenburg is engulfed in flames. But how could this devastating town fire have started? And could the infamous Bokkenrijders have had something to do with it? After all, several alleged Bokkenrijders were imprisoned in the former jail that was located in the building that now houses the museum.

Discover the story behind this dramatic event and immerse yourself in the world of the Bokkenrijders during Het Verhaal van Valkenburg at Museum Valkenburg.
