Photographer and filmmaker Kevin Osepa (1994, Curaçao) presents a new installation in SCHUNCK's monumental showcase from May.
Osepa's photography and films focus on the everyday and mystical, personal and collective within the world of Afro-Caribbean youth.
It is a world where everyday life and the magical world of rituals merge. His fascination with mysticism stems from his childhood, strongly influenced by the spiritual practice ‘Brua’: a mix of Catholic, African and indigenous beliefs, still alive in the Antilles.
In his work, Osepa explores personal and collective stories of older generations to understand his own identity and preserve the rituals and stories of his ancestors.
His themes are autobiographical as well as social, about identity in a post-colonial world, Antillean masculinity, gender and the search for home.
