Lumina Rolduc – light art in the abbey. In the middle of the South Limburg landscape stands Abbey Rolduc: one of the oldest and largest abbey complexes in the Netherlands.
As early as 1104, monks founded a spiritual and cultural centre here that played an important role in the region for centuries. The abbey experienced periods of prosperity and decline, became a place for science, education and faith, and grew into a monument of tranquillity, history and craftsmanship.
Yet Rolduc remains a hidden gem for many, tucked away in greenery, impressive both inside and out, but still far less known than it deserves to be. With Lumina Rolduc, the organisation literally puts this unique heritage in the spotlight.
Light art becomes the medium to bring a centuries-old story back to life. The organisation guides you along a route through the abbey and its beautiful gardens, where light installations, projections and artistic interventions magically transform the architecture and nature.
