The lights are dimmed, creating a calm and meditative atmosphere. Together, you sing unison and simple polyphonic mantras, as well as other melodies from a variety of traditions and cultures, in different languages.
Sometimes the music is quiet and contemplative; at other times, it is joyful and exuberant. Through the simplicity of singing, you create space and may experience moments of deep connection. You don't need any singing experience to produce a sincere sound—everyone can join in with ease.
You sing short texts, sometimes just a single sentence, to melodies you will recognise immediately. Between the songs, there are moments of silence. This alternation makes both the silence and the singing even more powerful. Jan Kortie, founder of Stembevrijding, accompanies the evening on piano for the first time at this special venue in Limburg.
In the afternoon, you can also take part in the Stembevrijding workshop Jij Bént Muziek in Meerssen with Jan Kortie. Together, the workshop and the evening session make a wonderful combination, but you are also welcome to attend either one separately.
