The Netherlands’ best-known actor, Huub Stapel, returns to the Rodahal in Kerkrade to play the leading role in Partizanen. Based on true events, this spectacular theatre production tells the story of a group of young resistance fighters from Limburg during the Second World War.
In Partizanen, ordinary people from Limburg take matters into their own hands in extraordinary times. When liberation appears to be within reach, the group of villagers decides that the time has come to take action. They raid a weapons transport and take German soldiers prisoner.
However, when liberation fails to arrive and their hideout is betrayed, the consequences prove impossible to foresee. With Partizanen, Toneelgroep Maastricht and Servé Hermans, together with Stapel, add a new chapter to their successful series of large-scale theatre productions.
Following Dagboek van een Herdershond, Het was Zondag in het Zuiden, Het Geluk van Limburg and Bokkenrijders, it is now time for Partizanen.
Theu Boermans, creator of the most successful Dutch musical of all time, Soldaat van Oranje, previously brought the story of the partisans to the screen in 1994. This time, Boermans is writing the script for the theatre version.
Servé Hermans directs the production. Partizanen can be seen from 19 May to 5 September 2027.
