Philzuid - Duncan dirigeert Mahler 6

Theater aan het Vrijthof
Maastricht
The South's premier symphony orchestra plays Mahler 6 under the baton of chief conductor Duncan Ward.

A symphonic dream comes true. Chief conductor Duncan Ward and Philzuid go all out for Mahler's highly personalised Sixth Symphony, which has long been at the top of Ward's wish list.

This so-called Tragic symphony requires orchestra and conductor to delve deep into the human psyche. The keynote of this eighty-minute symphony is dark and ominous.

As if Mahler foresaw his own future doom when composing the Sixth. But a renewed faith in life is also part of this breathtaking symphonic panorama.

The Sixth symphony is an intense work with its shining centrepiece being the Andante, considered one of Mahler's most consoling symphony parts.
