Philzuid presenteert: Brittens War Requiem

Parkstad Limburg Theater Heerlen, Burg. van Grunsvenplein 145,
Heerlen
With his War Requiem, Benjamin Britten composed a timeless and deeply moving requiem for all victims of war.

Philzuid and Chief Conductor Duncan Ward pull out all the stops for an outstanding performance featuring soloists and the choirs Groot Omroepkoor, Studium Chorale and Schola Puerorum.

In 1962, Britten completed this moving requiem for all victims of war, past and present. He chose the traditional Latin Requiem Mass as its foundation, but the work truly comes to life through the brilliant poetry of poet and soldier Wilfred Owen.

His personal and poignant poems leave nothing to the imagination. Owen experienced the devastating trench warfare of the First World War firsthand, allowing him to convey the pain and futility of that conflict with remarkable depth.

At a time when the Netherlands and the rest of the world are once again rearming, Britten's music and Owen's poetry serve as a powerful warning.
