Philzuid presenteert: Dvořáks 5e Symfonie

Theater aan het Vrijthof, Vrijthof 47,
Maastricht
As a musical painter of natural landscapes, Antonín Dvořák is unrivalled. In his pastoral Symphony No. 5, he combines the vitality of his beloved Slavic folk music with the grandeur of the classical tradition.

The Andante is of idyllic beauty, while the Finale fully realizes Dvořák's symphonic ambitions. Chief Conductor Duncan Ward and Philzuid set out on a musical journey of discovery with Dvořák—and the adventure does not end there.

Together with the acclaimed Belgian harpist Anneleen Lenaerts, principal harpist of the Wiener Philharmoniker, the orchestra heads to the exotic world of Alberto Ginastera's Argentina. Lenaerts performs a rare rendition of Ginastera's Harp Concerto, a true classic in the harp repertoire and a showcase for virtuosic performers.

Following Dvořák's example, Ginastera evokes the vast, endless Argentine pampas, while also driving the music forward with brilliant, incisive harp passages of dazzling virtuosity.
