Philzuid presenteert: In extase met Ravel, Szymanowski en Skrjabin

Theater aan het Vrijthof, Vrijthof 47,
Maastricht
Under the baton of Chief Conductor Duncan Ward, Philzuid performs a programme featuring works by pioneering symphonic composers.

The concert opens with Maurice Ravel's Valses nobles et sentimentales, followed by the rarely performed Violin Concerto No. 1 by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski, with Sylvia Huang—winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2019—as the soloist.

The programme concludes with the mystical vision of Le Poème de l'Extase by the Russian composer Alexander Scriabin. In this remarkable work, Scriabin explores lush harmonies and rich orchestral colours as never before, creating music that speaks directly to the imagination.

In Maastricht Year 2026, this concert forms part of Festival Musica Sacra.
