Philzuid presenteert: Ravels Pianoconcert voor de linkerhand

Theater aan het Vrijthof, Vrijthof 47,
Maastricht
Autumn may be in full swing, but Philzuid warms the heart with orchestral masterpieces by Ravel, Saint-Saëns and Franck. A symphonic programme with a refreshing twist.

The programme includes Ravel's suite Ma Mère l'Oye (Mother Goose), in which he transports listeners into the world of classic fairy tales, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that is at once childlike in its innocence and remarkably sophisticated.

Also by Ravel is the Concerto for the Left Hand, written for the legendary one-armed pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who lost his right arm during the First World War. Pianist Jonathan Fournel, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2021, takes on this extraordinary work.

The programme is completed by Danse macabre and the lesser-known Bacchanale by Camille Saint-Saëns, together with the rarely performed symphonic poem Le chasseur maudit by César Franck.
