Philzuid presenteert: Stravinsky's le Sacre du Printemps

Parkstad Limburg Theater Heerlen, Burg. van Grunsvenplein 145,
Heerlen
Le Sacre du Printemps by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky is widely regarded as one of the most revolutionary works ever written. The extraordinary driving force of this majestic Rite of Spring continues to captivate audiences and has inspired countless composers.

During the TROMP Competition, Philzuid and Chief Conductor Duncan Ward pair this landmark masterpiece with two kindred orchestral works of ritualistic character by Toru Takemitsu and Claude Debussy. The shimmering colours of Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune ignite an extraordinary dreamscape and represent Impressionist music at its very finest.

These subtle musical colours are best experienced live, just like the spectacular percussion work From me flows what you call time by the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, written in 1990 to commemorate the centenary of Carnegie Hall in New York. In this remarkable composition, five percussionists, led by percussion specialist Dominique Vleeshouwers, embody the five elements: water, fire, earth, wind and air.
