Sjostakovitsj 11 - Echo van de Revolutie

Sjostakovitsj 11 - Echo van de Revolutie

Parkstad Limburg Theaters Heerlen, Burgemeester van Grunsvenplein 145,

Fifty years ago, Dmitri Shostakovich died. As a tribute, British star conductor Martyn Brabbins and Philzuid perform his eleventh symphony, overflowing with emotion.

In it, the Russian revolution year 1905 is rendered inimitable. The four-movement symphony is a swirling melting pot of emotions: from wonder and fear to sadness and triumph. Cinema for the ears.

Nielsen's fiendishly difficult violin concerto is the body piece of Bulgarian violinist Liya Petrova. In 2016, she won the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition with her rendition.

In addition, enjoy a little-heard orchestral gem by Ukrainian composer Fyodor Akimenko, Stravinsky's first teacher.
