An American in Paris is George Gershwin’s brilliant impression of his visit to Paris. This is followed by Fight for Light by the Maastricht-based composer Jesse Passenier.

His award-winning album places two jazz soloists in front of the symphony orchestra, requiring them to improvise in part. With Piano Concerto No. 1 “Levensdrift”, Passenier aims to inspire you.

Layered, big band–style harmonies and driving rhythms are combined with late-Romantic influences.

Then Vibraphone & Marimba Concerto No. 1 “Becoming the Colour” puts the clear, sometimes warm sound of the vibraphone and the woody tone of the marimba in the spotlight.

During this concert, the students of the VU-Orkest are given every opportunity to showcase their passion and musicality.
