For tourists, as well as the people from Limburg, The Belgian Beer Route (Belgische Pinten Route) is ideal for a chilled day out in the Flemish Voer region and the Land of Herve, in Wallonia. Here, you will discover a quite unknown part of Belgium. This route starts at the Dutch-Belgian border at the hamlet of Ulvend.
An idyllic place to take a break is the Abbey of Val Dieu. This abbey is one of the most remarkable religious buildings in the Land of Herve. The courtyard, the basilica and the monumental park are open to the public. The outdoor café on the courtyard offers drinks and snacks.
Only a few kilometres further on, you will find approach ‘Ligne 38’, a former railway line between the cities of Liège and Aix-la-Chapelle (Aachen), that recently has been transformed into a unique cycle route. This path will take you to Hombourg, a typical Wallonia village with yet another cosy outdoor terrace at Pub Grain d’Orge. Via the village of Teuven, and the hamlet of De Plank, the route takes you back to Ulvend again. Here, restaurant ’t Bakhuis’ is a fabulous place to end an enjoyable day of cycling. Cheers!
There is nothing as annoying as a lack of clear signposting on your route. Despite continuous checks, a lack may still exist. Report unclear, broken or missing signposts quickly and efficiently to Routepunt Zuid-Limburg. Of course, suggestions for improvements are also welcome. Together, we can keep all our recreational routes up-to-date and accessible!
