Via Belgica fietsroute Zuid-Limburg

Via Belgica fietsroute Zuid-Limburg

This cycle route takes you along the Via Belgica, the old Roman main road that ran straight through Zuid-Limburg to connect the Atlantic coast with Cologne, centuries ago. On the way, you can take a look at several sights to learn more about the Roman history in Zuid-Limburg. The starting point of this cycle route is near Maastricht, on the edge of the Belgian border. From there, you cycle to the east, towards the German border, via the village of Klimmen and the town of Valkenburg. You can stop off at the Kunrader Quarry, estate hotel ‘Villa de Proosdij’ and the Roman Catacombs, or have a seat in the beautiful gardens of Château St Gerlach. The route ends in the village of Rimburg, where you can discover a vicus and the grave of a wealthy Roman lady. You can follow this route via the cycle junction numbers.
