Fietsroute - Smaakvolle mix van krijt & löss

On this route, lime is the overwhelming theme, immersing you entirely in the environment. For the ultimate experience, the lime cycle route has been divided into four linked loops, each of which tells a different story. The total route covers over 117 kilometres. A fanatical cyclist could travel through the entire era in one go, but, of course, you can take several days.

Where can you ‘experience’ lime more than in the Land of Lime? In the countryside between Valkenburg, Heerlen and Vaals, you can feel, taste and admire it. Of course, the tasting refers to the many vineyards and orchards that thrive on the fertile loess soil. From touristy Valkenburg, you cycle to a beautiful part of Zuid-Limburg, which is surprisingly hilly and rich in nature. ‘Kunradersteen’, the typical local limestone, is still extracted here in the last open-cast quarry in The Netherlands. This solid limestone can be seen in churches, farms and works of art. You can park and start at the car park of experience centre Par’course (De Leeuwhof, Valkenburg).
