On the cycle route ‘Around the Rivers Geul and Maas’, you explore the unrivalled nature reserve ‘Buitengoed Geul & Maas’: a joint effort of the municipalities of Maastricht, Meerssen and Valkenburg. The beautiful, renovated cycle paths take you through Meerssen, Geulle, and landscape park ‘Rivierpark Maasvallei’. In this area you enjoy splendid panoramas of the Zuid-Limburg hills. You get to see the stately castles of Vaeshartelt, Meerssenhoven and Geulle, and picturesque ferry boats and water mills will show you how natural water streams can affect culture.
Whether you climb the challenging hills on your E-bike, or under your own steam, you can enjoy a well-deserved break with a delicious piece of Limburg flan (vlaai) at restaurant ‘De Proosdij’ in Meerssen or at one of the many charming outdoor cafés along the way. You can park near the beautiful starting point at the Meerssen railway station. However, Meerssen is also easy to reach by train. From there you follow the cycle junction numbers.
There is nothing as annoying as a lack of clear signposting on your route. Despite continuous checks, a lack may still exist. Report unclear, broken or missing signposts quickly and efficiently to Routepunt Zuid-Limburg. Of course, suggestions for improvements are also welcome. Together, we can keep all our recreational routes up-to-date and accessible!
